Available on both Android and iOS devices, this new Castlevania: Symphony of the Night port costs $2.99 and comes with a “brand new continue feature” and achievements for players to unlock. Additionally, the new Symphony of the Night mobile port has full controller support, touchscreen controls, and it can be played in English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, and Spanish.

With respect to the source of this SotN port, it is seemingly based on the version that was released for PSP and PlayStation 4. This means that fans that have only ever played the original PlayStation release will encounter a brand new script and voice acting in the mobile port, and they will find that it contains some additional content as well, including a new boss battle and playable character.
For the uninitiated, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is considered to be incredibly influential in shaping the Metroidvania genre that more-contemporary hits like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Blind Forest fall under. Receiving critical acclaim upon its initial release, Symphony of the Night is often cited as one of the best video games of all time, and its port to mobile devices means that long-time fans and newcomers alike can easily play it on the go.
With season three of Netflix’s Castlevania series set to release on Thursday, March 5, now is a pretty good time for Symphony of the Night to come to Andorid and iOS. While some players may find that the title feels slightly dated next to games like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a recent Metroidvania that was produced by Symphony of the Night writer and assistant director Koji Igarashi, it is certainly worth a play from fans of the genre in particular and video game history in general.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is available for PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 4, and mobile devices.
