The Netflix Castlevania series is arguably one of the best Netflix exclusive shows to be released. Castlevania debuted back in July of 2017 and is based on the storyline of the NES classic, Castlevania 3. Despite the first season only having four episodes, the series was met with widespread success and fans immediately demanded more.

The second season released a little over a year later and was met with even more attention. The episode count had doubled in size and introduced a plethora of new and memorable characters. Nearly two years had gone by without any news of a third season, until it was suddenly announced that the third season would release in March of 2020.

Following the release of the Castlevania season 3 reveal trailer, fans were shocked and excited to find out that the third season was only a few short weeks away from release. A few weeks have passed and as of today, fans of the series can finally enjoy the continued adventures of Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard.

It’s still surprising how well this series has done since its release. As many members of the gaming community are well aware, live action or animated adaptations of video game franchises tend to fall flat. The amount of commercial and critical flops in terms of video game movies far outweigh the select good examples, unfortunately. So for Castlevania to find the intense degree of success and favor from the gaming community is quite impressive.

All of this being said, it is rather unfortunate that the creators of Netflix’s Castlevania have yet to adapt any other video game series in this style. Adi Shankar, the creator of the series definitely has the talent and creativity to pursue other franchises. Imagine if Shankar and his team made an animated Metroid series or an animated Legend of Zelda series. The possibilities are endless. Regardless, hopefully fans will enjoy the newest installment of Netflix’s Castlevania.

Castlevania is available now on Netflix.
