The leak of a potential Castlevania collection comes via the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee, as it has listed both Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood with a rating of ‘15’ for the region. At the time of the rating being discovered, only the PlayStation 4 version has been listed. There are two separate ratings for both games, with one in Korean and the other in English. This could lead to the collection launching in multiple regions.
There’s no word yet on if the collection could come to Xbox One or PC. However, with the PS4 listing, this could probably rule out either of these games being added to the list of titles coming to the newly announced PlayStation Classic launching in December. As far as playable Castlevania games on Xbox One go, the arcade re-release of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the only title from the series available on the system’s list of backwards compatible games.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night originally released in 1997, and is considered a cult classic with its then-innovative platforming / adventure playing style. Its prequel adventure, Rondo of Blood (1993), may not be as well received as SOTN, but has seen a few remade versions launch on the SNES, PSP, and the Nintendo Wii as part of the Virtual Console market.
The past few years have been strange for Konami, with the splitting up between it and Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima and the push for more focus on the company’s Pachinko machine market in Japan. Konami did release a new Metal Gear game earlier this year, however, in Metal Gear Survive, which didn’t reach the standard of previous games in the series. While it hasn’t confirmed whether or not the Castlevania collection listing may come as a remaster or re-release, it looks as if Konami could be trying to win back its fans by bringing back a couple of classic titles.
The aforementioned Castlevania collection has yet to be officially announced.
