Carberry, who featured in six Tests and seven limited-overs internationals, had surgery after discovering he had a cancerous tumour last July.
The left-handed opener was appearing in a first-class match for the first time since then, and a hugely successful knock made his incredible comeback even more special.
Carberry opened alongside Jimmy Adams and made his ton off just 121 deliveries, notching 17 boundaries before his dismissal.
His performance will be a huge boost for Hampshire, who being their County Championship season at Yorkshire on Friday.
